Girdwood holds Trails Marathon Saturday

Girdwood held the annual Girdwood Trails Marathon along with other running events on Saturday.

Photos and Story by by Briana Sullivan

The half marathon had the most registered participants this year, with 248 people and 10 juniors!  There were 87 runners doing the full marathoner and 76 running the 5K.

This was the second year of the 5K and the first time running the loop clockwise around local trails.

2026 Girdwood Trails Marathon was the largest yet with 421 individuals registered to run clockwise in Girdwood on a great day! Only some rain a few hours into Saturday's event with a morning both cloudy and cool.

The race couldn't have happened without all the fabulous volunteers, from prepping the course, to setting up the Alyeska Daylodge, to registration, and to all the nourishment, The Bake Shop for soup and sweet rolls, warm drinks, and our awesome aid stations and race directing!

Thank you Deb Essex and Brian Burnett for organizing all the volunteers to orchestrate this event with me. Finally, our incredible runners who came out and impressed everyone, including themselves on a very challenging course.
